Alibaba ’ s Qwen App Launches AI Shopping With Full Ecosystem Integration

Alibaba ’ s Qwen App announced on Thursday that it has completed full integration with the company ’ s ecosystem, including Taobao, Alipay, Taobao Flash Sale, Fliggy, and Amap, enabling AI-powered shopping and lifestyle services for the first time globally.

The move opens testing to all users and introduces more than 400 AI-driven service features, making Qwen the first AI assistant designed to handle complex real-world tasks within a commercial ecosystem.

The integration allows users to perform tasks such as ordering food, buying goods, and booking flights through AI commands, with payments and transactions executed seamlessly within the Alibaba platform.

"After developing a super-intelligent brain, AI is now growing hands and feet that can reach into the real world and actually ‘ get things done ’ for users in their daily lives," said Wu Jia, President of Qwen ’ s Consumer Business Group. "Our unique advantage lies in the combination of Qwen ’ s most powerful model and Alibaba ’ s richest ecosystem. The era of AI-powered services has just begun, and we will move forward step by step, building Qwen into the most powerful AI assistant for humanity."

Qwen aims to operate as a commercial AI Agent, leveraging Alibaba ’ s internal resources and ecosystem capabilities. Unlike general-purpose AI Agents such as Manus, Doubao Phone, or Zhipu GLM, Qwen is embedded into an established ecosystem of consumer and lifestyle services, allowing it to immediately execute real-world transactions rather than merely providing guidance or generating suggestions.

Manus is a general-purpose task Agent focused on cross-tool and process automation, while Doubao integrates AI directly into hardware and operating systems. Zhipu GLM provides a modular Agent platform for developers and enterprises. Qwen distinguishes itself by combining Alibaba ’ s ecosystem data with its AI capabilities, creating a closed-loop system capable of decision-making, execution, and payment.

At the launch event, Wu Jia demonstrated Qwen ’ s AI-powered food delivery feature. With a single spoken command — "Order 40 cups of Boya Juexian from Bawang Chaji for me" — Qwen placed an order through Taobao Flash Sale and completed payment automatically via Alipay ’ s AI Pay, all without switching apps or interfaces.

The functionality relies on system-level integration between Qwen and Alibaba services, including payment, logistics, and product databases. This positions Alibaba ahead of competitors, such as Google, which recently announced AI shopping partnerships with Walmart and other retailers but has yet to roll out live multi-category AI purchasing.

Alibaba ’ s competitive edge lies in its vertical integration of model and ecosystem, with Qwen leveraging the company ’ s large language model and connecting seamlessly to internal services. Analysts say this approach reduces common obstacles in AI deployment, including decision trust and payment friction, which often hinder consumer adoption.

Qwen ’ s integration required standardizing and exposing capabilities from Alibaba ’ s multiple apps through unified interfaces, enabling the AI to execute tasks such as placing orders, querying information, and processing payments automatically. Each app in the ecosystem had to be adapted into a machine-usable format, a process described by Wu Jia as an ecosystem-level AI transformation.

The AI ’ s task orchestration system breaks user requests into multiple sub-tasks, selects the appropriate tools, executes them in sequence, and returns results to users. Underpinning this is Qwen ’ s improved large model coding ability, multimodal understanding for interpreting text, images, and voice inputs, and enhanced long-context processing for complex scenarios.

Qwen ’ s Task Assistant feature, currently in beta testing, offers multi-step planning for applications such as office work, research, app development, and everyday tasks. Users can generate mini-tools, organize reports, or complete multi-step operations with a single command. This feature is expected to be made available free of charge after testing concludes.

The Qwen App now provides AI-powered guidance for shopping decisions, analyzing product databases, reviews, and historical purchase data to generate actionable recommendations. The system can guide users through the entire purchase process, from identifying what to buy, assessing value, selecting products, and completing transactions.

Wu Jia emphasized that in consumer scenarios, the abundance of online marketing information requires the AI to filter, evaluate, and provide trustworthy recommendations. Qwen leverages Alibaba ’ s transaction and service data to enhance model accuracy and ensure recommendations are relevant and reliable.

Analysts say Alibaba ’ s approach represents a significant step in the development of AI-powered commercial services. By embedding an AI Agent directly into a comprehensive ecosystem, Qwen demonstrates a practical application of AI in everyday life, moving beyond proof-of-concept models and standalone agents.

Unlike Google ’ s AI shopping initiatives, which rely on external partnerships, Qwen operates within a tightly integrated ecosystem, reducing reliance on third-party systems and enhancing user trust in transactions. Industry observers say this model may become a benchmark for AI applications in retail, travel, and lifestyle services.

Wu Jia said that Qwen ’ s launch marks the beginning of a step-by-step expansion. While over 400 features are now available, additional capabilities will be rolled out gradually, further embedding AI into daily consumer and business activities.

"The era of AI-powered services has just begun," Wu said. "We aim to build Qwen into the most powerful AI assistant for humanity, truly enabling AI to help everyone accomplish tasks in real life."

With Qwen, Alibaba has not only advanced its AI model but also demonstrated how ecosystem integration can transform AI from a conceptual tool into an actionable assistant, setting a new benchmark in the global AI-powered consumer services market.
